About St. Theresa School of Nursing

St. Theresa School of Nursing (STSON) is a Nursing School attached to St. Joseph Council Designated Hospital (CDH) in Moshi Kilimanjaro, Tanzania with NACTE, REG/HAS/227. STSON is under the governance of the Congregation of The Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro- Congregation Dominae Nostrae De Kilimanjaro (CDNK).

The Congregation was founded in 1931 in Moshi Kilimanjaro by The Missionaries (Holy Ghost Fathers) whose spirit and charisma was;“To give a humble life and readiness of Christ, by totally giving ourselves to the apostolic and service of love to all people according to the needs of the Church, following the example of Our Mother Mary by fulfilling the will of God.”

The initial idea for the establishment of St. Theresa School of Nursing dates back to the year 2011, when the Administration of St. Joseph CDH under guidance of the late Sr. Dr. Urbanus Lyimo who was the then doctor In Charge of St. Joseph Hospital felt that there was a need for the establishment of such a school within the hospital because of two main reasons.

Firstly, the Administration noted that the hospital facilities, personnel and services had expanded greatly over the years providing an environment under which such a school would run. Secondly and most importantly, the Tanzanian Government has invested heavily in health sector with the ultimate aim of ensuring accessibility to quality health care services to all the citizens. For example, The Primary Health Care Development Programme (2007–2017) proposed the establishment of one dispensary per village and one Health Centre per Ward.

St. Theresa School of Nursing intends to improve the health status of the community by producing competent and committed nurses and midwives which is in line with the Tanzanian’s government objective of provision of quality healthcare to all the citizens. The nursing school will be a Diploma, Hospital-based School.

The school is located in Soweto Ward approximately 5 kilometers West of Moshi town in Kilimanjaro Region. The school is boarding for males and females for any students in spite of one’s religious affiliation.
